- Saltspring Isl. [Island] Aug [August] 18, 1939.
Dunning tells me that both
the bucks ate the velvet with
apparent enjoyment.
Food. Doe ate Delphinium (wild larkspur
bracken, blackberry, willow, maple,
phlox, potato roots + leaves. Cabbage.
Parasites The louse flies are awing,
+ getting onto the deer. A black
flea [underlined] jumped onto me from
one of the deer. Pulex irritans
Disease Trixie the smallest of the
does has gone downhill since
the birth of her fawn. At
present she is very poor,
still retains some of the old
winter hair among that
of the summer. She has had
diarrea [diarrhea], the hocks soiled badly.
All symptoms similar to that
of wild deer dying locally.
