Among the museum exhibits that took my fancy
were several showing shape + structure of
bird wings, Exoskeletal developments of
vertebrates, broad patches in diff [different] species of
birds. A very large series of mounted
skeletons, including a good Rhytina.
there are 2 other good Rhytina skulls in
the Riksmuseum at Frescati, one with
an almost complete skeleton.
Comparative bone structure + form
a series of bleached + dried inflated
lungs also stomachs of cetaceans +
herbivores. Actually the anatomy collection
is unique.
All the incumbents are working with
embryology or physiology of marine organisms.
Dr Sven Horstadius, the head, works mainly
with sea urchin eggs.
I had both lunch + dinner with him
+ thoroughly enjoyed him. He is a gentle,
kindly little man + a brilliant scholar.
The University Library 1841 was interesting, a
large building, housing only about 50,000 volumes,
The main reading room is completely filled with
the working tables of the advanced students.
There are many treasures in the Library, among
them + of particular note is the Codex argenteus
a gothic biblical trans. [translation] of about 526
