- The Indians used to bury their malefactors on this Island instead of in the same trees as their other dead. up to 50 years ago these Indians used tree burial. Then they adopted burial in 4 ft [foot] boxes, breaking the thigh bones so as to fit. The coffins we found were at least 5 ft [feet] long. Opitsat Indians. Kitamat Indians on the p [words crossed out] Vargas Island. This rock had sallal [salal] - one or two small firs + various weeds + grass as vegetation The microtus had well worn runways through the grass. The rock is not quite separated at low tide, but lies about 100 yds [yards] from the west side of Knockers Island + separated by mud flats at low tide.
