- Aug. [August] 1 [1958] Edinburgh.
In the morning drove out to
North Berwick for the low tide. THe
situation differed slightly from Millport.
A great abundance of the black
littorina in tide pools + at all depths
from low water to high. Some [underlined]
L. [Littorina] saxatilis [underlined]. The Fucus inhabiting
red-brown species of Millport was
absent. Patella vulgata common +
in a red + black striped form. Found
one specimen very flat with apex
at ant. [anterior] end. Is this the flattened
species of the channel area. The Thais
have many pinkish specimens absent
from the W. [west] coast. The unspotted
form of Cyprinid (arctica) was
common in sea weed detritus at the
tide line. To my eye the Littorina
at highest level were more turretiform
than those lower down. Took half a
dozen specimens.
