- Sept [September] 1 [1944] (contd [continued]) - Passed through Kaslo (gassed truck) and over
pass through [illegible word] to New Denver on Slocan Lake
where we had dinner at Hotel. Left 7 p.m. Looking
for camping spot.- pass up Summit Lake; finally
Nakusp where we pitched camp by head lights at
8:15 on shore of Upper Arrow Lake.
[September] 2nd [1944] - Heavy dew in night - Collected 3 chipmunks (2
had large [illegible word] grubs - 3 in 1, 2 in other) and
1 red squirrel - saw garter snake.
Squirrel had black-flies biting it when picked up
+ red hemmhouge [hemorrhage] spots were conspicuous on under
surface of skin when skinned next a.m. by Allan Brooks.
Left Nakusp by 9 + caught Fauquier Ferry at
" [Nakusp]. Began ascent of Monashee - lunch
near summit at 1:30. Arrived Vernon at
4 pm.- Phoned Maj [Major] Allan Brooks + drove to their
place in time for tea. Saw portions of his collection
had supper + stayed the night.
[September] 3 [1944] Sunday. Made skins of 1 chipmunk + 1 red squirrel
collected at Nakusp. Left before noon for
Kamloops via Salmon Arm. Arrived at Gregsons
5 p.m. Had dinner there + slept at Lab. after
unloading Hollands stuff + taking on 5 gal [gallons] of gas
to see us to Cache Cr [Creek].
[September] 4 [1944] Left Kamloops 7 am. Breakfast at Cache Creek.
Filled up with gas. Lunch at 9 on creek (S. [south] of Lytton).
Stopped at Hope to have 2 flat tires mended 5 p.m.
Arrived Vancouver 7 p.m. No space on boats for truck.
