- Bald Eagle [underlined].
Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] June 2/46 [1946].
Bert [White] today found a bald eagles
nest. It is on the east side
of the river directly across
from mile 6 on the Edmonton
highway. The nest is not a
large one + is situated in the
top of a large Douglas fir.
When we revisited the nest
this evening the female was
feeding the young, one of which
was visible above the rim of
the nest. Considerable whitewash
on the ground.
The female is a very large
mature bird while her mate is
smaller + has the head grayish
+ the tail with a terminal bar
+ many flecks of brown on
the basal parts.
Jasper. June 5/46 [1946]
Climbed to nest, one chick just about
a month old + the size of a chicken,
gray down + contour feathers just
coming in.
Nest composed of sticks with a two
inch layer of dry grass on top.
Only food remains, hind foot of a
black bear + feathers of a flicker.
