- After lunch Salmonsen [Finn Salomonsen] took me on a tour
of the book shops of which there are many.
They impressed me greatly but their neatness +
the knowledge of stock possessed by the
attendants. I located several rare +
interesting sets + volumes.
We should definitely get Acta Arctica.
4 vols. [volumes] out, The 5th Thule Expedition Reports.
Many of the Greenland Reports, the set is
expensive 3500 K. [Krone] but broken sets are about
2/3rd [two-thirds] that. The Dana Expedition Reports.
[Finn] Salomonsen recommends Ardea +
the 2 Dutch ornithological periodicals
The museum here has had lots of
money for exploratory expeditions all over
the world both from the government + from
private donors. I find that the great output
of books, popular + semipopular by the
local zoologists arises from the necessity
of implementing their small salaries.
[Finn] Salomonsen gets about 800 k [krone] per month.
but reckons that the dollar only has buying
power in America of 2 k. [krone] here.
Income taxes are very high - [Magnus Anton] Degerbol
pays 40%.
At 4 o'clock I rejoined [Magnus Anton] Degerbol + with
