- July 11, 1964 Contd. [continued]
En route saw no whales of any sort.
Birds included a Beal's Petrel, a dozen
puffin + about twice that many Rhino [Rhinoceros]
Auklets.
At Bull Hbr. [Harbour] crows, Eagles, ravens,
song + fox sparrow were all seen.
July 12/64. [1964] At Bull Harbour, worked the outside
beach W [West] of Roller Bay at low tide. Saw a
mink, also tracks of otter + deer.
7 short-billed dowitcher + about 50
western sandpipers. Tide 0.9' [feet]
July 13/64. [1964] Weighed anchor at 9:00 + pulled round
the corner to the Indian Village on
Hope Island in Bates Passage. There the
girls hunted artifacts while I worked
the headland shoreline at 1.8' [feet] tide
The framework + part of the roof of
the old long-house is still standing. One
beam in particular is magnificently
adzed.
At 12:00 left via Bates Passage +
the outside for Blunden Harbour. Our
route took us close by the south ends
of the Deserters group + Walker group,
of islands. Anchored in Blunden Harbour
about 16:00 + proceeded immediately to
the Indian burial where a small but fine
