- I.McT.Cowan [Ian McTaggart Cowan] Texas Creek., Lillooet District
Nov. [November] 3-7, 1937.
This creek runs into the Fraser
from the west 16 mi [miles] s. [south] of
Lillooet. Trail runs up it some
12 miles to the head waters.
We camped at Timberline, 7500'
for 3 days in an abandoned
mine cabin. Weather fine
with high winds + intermittent
snow.
The dominant trees at the
level of the Fraser river are
Pinus ponderosa, Pseudotsuga,
Pinus contorta, with some
Juniperus scopulorum in the
drier spots + along the canyon
walls.
Further up Picea Engelmannii
+ P. [Pinus] contorta murryana take the
place of the lower trees, Juniperus
communis of J. [Juniperus] scopulorum. Forest
continues thus to timber-line
where Pinus albicaulis is
dominant with Picea + Abies
amabilis abundant, quite a lot
of aspen. Alder + black
poplar along the river at
lower elevations. Mts [mountains] high
+ rugged, with extensive rock
slides inhabited by Ochotona
