Breeding:- Took a [female symbol] on July 13 that had
7 placental scars + 6 new implantations
some milk in the lactal ducts but
no active lactation. Another [female symbol] had some
blood in vaginal orifice.
Reindeer Station. July 16/47 [1947]
In evening worked 1st [first] lake +
3rd [third] lake intensively. In areas where
burrows are occupied on shoreline
with a broad slope or flat between
the bank + the water the rats have
burrows from 10 to 15 ft [feet] in
length before they leave the water.
In a few places these take the
form of shallow [word crossed out] grooves - ie
burrows with the roof off.
These burrows are interconnected
+ there are places somewhat higher
than the rest where the burrow
is not completely filled with water.
Here there are feeding areas.
At this time of year most
burrows contain extensive
accumulations of food - 90%
Equisetum. Possibly the [female symbol]'s do
much of their feeding within
the burrow when they have
young.
Breeding:- We examined 3 [female symbol]'s this
evening - In all the nipples were
