- Journal.
Radium Hot Springs, BC. [British Columbia] June 26/43.[1943]
Came down here this morning through
intermittent deluges. At noon met
Prov. [Provincial] Game Wardens Tyler of Invermere
+ Cameron of Golden. + spent the afternoon
conversation with them.
Both are of the opinion that the
parks are a breeding ground for
predators but apart from Tylers
comment that there are lots of
cougar tracks to be seen crossing
in + out of the park they seem
to have no concrete basis for
their statement.
My experience indicates that the
coyotes largely leave the park
during the winter + thus the other
attitude is that the park feeds the
coyotes that the prov. [provincial] authorities +
trappers do not eliminate during
the winter. Neither of these
men seem at all upset about
the predator question, their main
worry seems to be how to counter
the overabundance of deer in
the farming districts. Tyler
states that the majority of winter
killed deer are yearlings. Have
suggested that he examine carcases [carcasses]
for lungworm.
Cameron tells me that elk
winter along the Kootenay as far up as
