  • Odocoileus hemionus [Mule deer] Pipestone Cabin [underlined] July 18/43 [1943] An old nursing doe here - [illegible word crossed out] mostly shed off. Saw a large buck on the Little Pipestone summit - complete summer pelage. Predation [underlined] [Warden Percy] Woodworth found a dead deer on the ice of Drummond creek in mid winter 2 winters ago coyotes were feeding on it. Kills:- Saw remains of a deer - winter pelage - on summit Banff. July 20/43 [1943] Saw 4 large bucks bedded on top of Molar Pass, 1 doe in the bottom. All 5 were shed off completely. Bucks show 2nd forking. Jasper, July 22/43 [1943] Shot a [female symbol] ad [adult] en route at mile 83. Very emaciated, limped on both fore legs. Brisket greatly swollen, a central wound with clotted blood around it. Swelling was filled with large blood clots + about 2 cupfulls of foul smelling bloody pus - gangrene had set in. In ant. [anterior] part of chest cavity below heart was an abcess [abscess] containing almost a pint of yellow pus. More pus inside pericardial cavity. An abcess [abscess] 30 mm [millimeters] in diam [diameter] in tip of right lung. Terminal third of lung hepatized.
