- 13 Incense Burner
Ming dynasty; late i6th/early 17th century

This incense burner resembles an ancient
three-legged ritual bronze vessel called a li.
The squat round body has lotus scrolls, and
the upper rim is bordered with a ruyi or
cloud scroll pattern. On the base is a cloi-
sonne mark of Jingtai nian zao in red
characters on a white field with a purple
border. The colours include: red, white,
yellow, cobalt blue, and mixed green-white
and yellow-green, on a turquoise blue
ground.
14 Jardiniere or Incense Burner
Ming dynasty; late 16th century

This circular jardiniere has three bands of
different floral designs on alternating back-
grounds of dark blue and turquoise blue
divided by gilt bands. It has a gilt key-fret
design on the upper rim. The lion heads
with loop handles and the three-legged
base are later additions. The Jingtai reign
mark is embossed on the base. The colours
include red, white, yellow, dark green,
brown, cobalt blue and light blue.
