The day almost set a record by remaining fine except for a light shower in mid-afternoon. The pass is a low one 6750' + except for the usual birch + willow meadows along the watercourses is timbered all the way. The mountains are rugged, the winter snowfall deep. A few moose had wintered high up + no doubt some goat on the high s. [south] facing slides. The grass patch on mt [mount] Cyclone upon which [Warden Percy] Woodworth saw 5 or 6 sheep (ewes + lambs) wintering is not more than 10 or 20 acres in extent. Game seen mule deer 2 goat 15. Banff. July 20/43 [1943] Left Pipestone Cabin 9 AM + rode out to the Jasper Highway via Molar Pass. Beautiful day, no clouds, hot sun light west wind. Game not abundant along this route. Elk, moose + deer in small numbers coyote tracks fresh, grizzly digging on summit but no fresh tracks. Horned larks nesting on summit.
