  • 29 I. McT. [Ian McTaggart] Cowan 1935. Alta Lake, BC. [British Columbia] Dec. [December] 29, 1935. Clear, melting snow on ground. In AM [morning] ran trap line getting 1 Peromyscus. 1 Clethrionomys, 1 Dusky shrew, + 1 Cinereus shrew In the afternoon walked up to mile 40 through the Lost Lake trail, up Green River + back by the Pemberton trail, a distance in all of about 12 miles, The only birds seen all the way were about 30 Red backed chickadees, 1 Stellers Jay + 1 juvenile Goshawk. There were lots of coyote tracks en route Quite a few rabbit tracks in the forest just by the Lost Lake bridge across Fitzimmons [Fitzsimmons] Creek. The tracks of a bobcat followed the trail down from mile 40. It was interesting to notice that the bobcat had not gone through the light crust on the snow while coyote + squirrels, even the rabbits, went through at each step.
