Miette:- May 10, 1944.
Saw my first moose this year
in the sloughs just west of
Miette. There was lots of moose
sign all through the flooded
bottoms. Here willow + cornus
were the major browse plants
Burstrom thinks moose have increased in this area somewhat.
Health:- This animal was thin + badly rubbed.
Jasper. May 12/44 [1944]
Saw a 2 or 3 yr [year] old bull on the
banks of the Miette 7 mi [miles] W [west] of Jasper.
Condition good.
Shalebanks - May 17/44 [1944]
Saw 2 year old bull moose 1 mile S [south] of cabin.
Beginning to moult but in good condition.
Willow Creek. May 20, 1944.
Saw 2 [male symbol] 1 [female symbol] + 1 newborn calf
One bull was poor but the others
were in excellent condition.
Kills:- found on bull killed by
wolves in February this year

Two moose, bull + cow at the small
pond near camp.
Willow Cr. [Creek] May 24/44 [1944]
Examined at close range 2 cow moose, both
were in excellent flesh + appeared pregnant
but it is a little hard to be sure
with moose.
