Monashee Pass, B.C. [British Columbia] June 25/37 [1937].
Took a young, very light colored
animal + an old darker one - [female symbol], the
latter was with a yearling young.
When I approached the young one
it gave a grunting squeal.
Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke. July 3/37 [1937].
An old, dark, individual was
encountered today on Eva Lake trail
about 2 mi [miles] from the Lookout.
It did not notice my presence
until I was within 6 ft [feet]. It
then erected its quills + slowly
turned its head towards me.
Whenever I moved it would lash
its tail.
Oct. [October] 29/40 [1940]. Dr. [Braham Grey] Griffith UBC [University of British Columbia] dept. [department] Forestry.
tells me that at Aleza Lake, B.C. [British Columbia]
in June 19__ [space left blank] he watched a
pair of porcupines copulating. He
watched the process by flashlight +
reported it to occupy about 1/2 hour.
The two porcupines stood up belly
to belly grasping each other with
their front legs. He was originally
attracted to them by the continuous
"talking" they were doing.
