- Scaphiopus [underlined] Osoyoos, B.C. May 20, 1941.
Took nine of these toads singing in a marshy
backwater on the east side of the lake. Another
two under boards adjacent to a small pond by
Tracey's Dairy Farm on the west side.
Tracks in the sand show the toads to be
active all over the desert at night. I myself
took 5 at night out on the desert a quarter of
a mile from water.
May 29, 1941. Many large tadpoles, one transforming.

Spadefoots calling from a pond nearby.
Penticton, B.C. May 31, 1941.
Heard spadefoots calling from an irrigation
flood pool near [S.J.] Darcus place, also from hear the
railway close to our auto camp.
Kamloops, B.C. June 5 and 6 [1941]
Raining intermittently for the last several
weeks. Heard Spadefoots calling on 5th and on
same evening caught one on the road in front of
the Entom. Lab. [Entolomological Laboratory] at Mission Flats 3 miles west of
town.
Kamloops, June 8, 1941. Located a breeding congregation in
in [word crossed out] rainponds in a pig pen. Water 4" [inches] to 10"[inches] deep.
Numbers of Spadefoot & northern toads & Hyla
calling.
4 pairs of Scaphiopus taken in amplexus.
Clasping is inguinal. One male toad was clasping
a [female symbol] Hyla when captured at 11 p.m. By noon next
day Hyla was almost dead, peritonenum [peritoneum] appeared
to have been ruptured in inguinum and blood had
