There is a full time collector-preparator for
the bird + mammal collections. I did not have
time to find out all the details but will
do so on my next visit.
Apparently honor students in their 4th
+ final year take a minimum of course
work + spend most of their time on an
individual research project.
Wynn-Edwards [Vero Copner Wynne-Edwards] tells me that many Scottish
deer forests have been grossly overstocked for
almost 300 years. In his opinion the deer have
been the main influences restricting spread of
the forests in Scotland. It seems to me
that his fact alone may explain the reduced
stature of British red deer.
Just south of Stonehaven is a famous
ruin of Dunnottar Castle. This castle is
famous as the place where the Scottish Royal
regalia were hidden during the Cromwellian
wars.
St [Saint] Cyrus. July 29 Left here at 10:30 for Fowlsheugh the
big bird cliff a couple of miles south of
Stonehaven. Crossing the fields we descended
the steep cliff trail to the beach and from
