- no protection at all from digging predators in the summer + the lake is shallow + will freeze out in the winter. Strictly a population overflow. Food:- Food plants of rats in lakes 1 + 2 collected. Mainly grass, then equisetum, then fine leaved aquatic + finally potomageton. Population [drawing of connected lakes with burrows and trapped individuals indicated] animals taken [male symbol] + [female symbol] occupied burrows shown [coloured in circle] Possibly occupied [open circle] There are many old burrows not currently occupied but visited from time to time Burrows now exposed by falling water are frequently found plugged with dead vegetation. Predators:- 1 muskrat found below nest of bald eagle + a horned owl seen carrying one.
