  • 109 [number crossed out] 194 Maria Magdalena Anchorage Anchored here at noon, had lunch and I then went ashore, sea calm + very little surf. Walked up the big arroyo for 2 1/2 hours collecting but had not come to a water hole of any sort. The avifauna here this time is very much less abundant than it was when I was last here in 1958. My return took 1 hr [hour], I estimate 1 1/2 - 3 total Today the orioles were primarily associated with the rather open forest of low trees, agave + organ pipe cactus at lower elevations. The parula, vireos, + wrens + woodpeckers were throughout, Parrots (Amazon) Cinn hummer [Cinnamon hummingbird], dusky flycatcher, robin + blue mockingbird were exclusively in the moss hung ironwood forests. Superficially I detect the following ecologic type. A dense low shrubbery of the delta area [space left blank], the agave cactus, thorn scrub of the most arid hills near shore, The scrub forest of the transition into the ironwood moss forest of the interior. Birds seen today. [TABLE]
