Banff. June 8/44 [1944]
At Athabasca falls lick were
2 [male symbol] 2 [female symbol] 2 yearlings, at mile 60
south of Jasper were 3 goat -
In Banff park 5 were seen.
Jasper June 11/44 [1944]
Today there were 10 goats on
the licks of Athabasca Falls + 8
more on the mountain. This is
10 more than seen previously.
Two [female symbol]'s each had a single
kid of 10 days +/- old.
We attempted to catch one of
the kids but they were too quick
for us. None the less in an
hour and a half we so played
out a nanny + kid that they
permitted close approach. Both were
very exhausted.
The [female symbol]'s were very solicitous for
their young. They endeavoured to
keep them close at all times + if
they became separated they bleated
to them. When separated + tired the
kids sometimes attempted to hide
but when opportunity arose broke
for the open face.
One kid when closely approached
stamped its fore feet in the
manner of the adults.
