Ya Ha Tinda Ranch. July 6, 1943
Rode here today from Sulphur
Springs - a distance of about 22 miles.
Got a late start thanks to horses
leaving us but arrived here about
6 PM. Trail in poor condition - 14 river
crossings on Panther - need for a lot
of slashing along the river base.
several trees on the trail.
Examined range adjacent to
Sulphur Springs, with present
elk concentration there is little chance for the sheep to increase
The dominant perennial grass (#2)
is being selectively killed off, with
clumps only about 1/5 the size now.
Sheet erosion beginning on
hillsides.
On way down river to park
boundary saw a ewe sheep kill
+ a 2 yr [year] ram kill. The former
appeared to be a predator job
the latter was impossible to
tell. Outside the park saw
2 elk kills + 2 large bull
moose dead a year. - antlers on.
