Banff. June 9/44 [1944].
Saw 17 elk. including 2 [male symbol] 4 [female symbol] 1 yr. [yearling]
Males were on S [south] slopes of Mt. [Mount] Bourgeau,
+ sign indicated a large population
there.
Shot + examined one [male symbol] + found
it to be in excellent condition
throughout. There were 2 large
and several small, resolved lung
abcesses that had apparently been
worm induced but no active
parasitism.
Shot + examined a 2 yr [year] old [female symbol].
+ found this in good condition
+ absolutely without parasites
Here again there were two small
collapsed areas on the apex of
the left diaphragmatic lobe +
one of these contained a resolved
abcess. No other parasites.
Measurements of both on autopsy
sheets 44-6-9 a + b.

Seen:- Returning from Banff saw 5 elk
near Louise, 1 [male symbol] at Graveyards, 9 cows
+ 2 newborn calves at Athabasca Falls.
2 [male symbol] + 2 [female symbol] lower down Athabasca
