Saw an adult red-tail fly in from
the beach area.
Rose Harbour - Aug. [August] 17/46 [1946].
Shot an juvenile bird today.
Crop empty, also stomach. Fat.
Sandspit. Aug. [August] 24/46 [1946].
Shon [shot] a juv [juvenile] [female symbol] today. It was
feeding on the ground + when shot
had a large green caterpillar in
its throat. Charlie [Guiguet] tells me the
Stewart told him of taking one
or more containing several large
slugs.
Sandspit. Aug. [August] 27/46 [1946].
Found a red-tails nest not far
east of the road about 3 miles
S [south] of here. Two old birds still nearby
Shot a young [male symbol] a mile from
there. Stomach contents 5 shrews
+ 1 large slug. Beak + claws covered
with slime. Ad. [adult] birds were
hunting along edge of marsh in
which muskrats, rats, Perys [Peromyscus] +
shrews common.
