Lac La Hache July 17.
In late afternoon left for
Quesnel arriving about 10 PM.
On the way saw a Marmota flaviventris [underlined]
10 mi [miles] N. [North] of Wm's [Williams] Lake. Shot it but
found that it had mange or some
similar disease.
Pantage Lake. July 18/49 [1949].
Left Quesnel with game warden
Hillen + drove 38 miles NW [Northwest] on the
Blackwater road to this lake.
The road was terrible + the place
here mosquito ridden + the
well full of dead small
fry + useless as drinking
water.
Inspected the whole lake
in the afternoon. It is shallow
all over, nowhere more than
about 4 ft [feet] deep + choked with
Pot. [Potamogeton] natans, P. [Potamogeton] richardsoni +
2 smaller species of Pot. [Potamogeton] that
have not floating leaves.
Myriophyllum + Nymphaea
are the other abundant aquatics
The marginal vegetation is all
