Jasper. June 1/46 [1946]
In morning picked up elk carcase [carcass] shot
two days ago + placed it at the
beaver pond as a coyote bait
In afternoon met Frank Banfield at
the train + showed him around
a bit. Strikes me as being a good
man.
Jasper. June 3/46 [1946].
Drove east to Pocohontas + then
crossed to Miette cabin by boat
The Miette range is in excellent
condition, the Shepherdia [underlined], Eleagnus [underlined]
Rosa [underlined] + Cornus [underlined] is slightly browned
but in good condition with little
or no dead wood. Even the willows
are in fair shape + there are
a few small aspens coming
up. Grass growth is good with
wheat grass abundant.
The sheep range is in slightly
less favorable condition but
there is about 20% carryover
+ the grass growth is fair. There
is a pronounced difference between
the enclosure flat + the general
range.
