- gnarled pines were most attractive.
Pinguicula + Rubus Chamaemorus were
nostalgic - last time I saw them was
near Massett [British Columbia].
We then drove by Loch Clair + Coulin
over the hills to Achnashellach, a most
interesting bit of moorland with highland
cattle on them [word crossed out] it, Then down Glen
Carron + up Loch Long to Killilan where we
have occupied a bothy along with
Archie Macdonald + Phillip [space left blank] the
two stalkers employed on the deer survey.
Edinburgh May 28.
Yesterday morning we left camp at the head of Loch na Leitreach at 8
+ climbed over a 1096 foot pass to the head of
a stream draining into Loch Lungard. At the head
of this Loch we turned up Glen Choillich [?] up
which we went to the foot of Ben Carn Eige
3877'. + the tallest peak north of Loch ness.
In this glen we saw about 250 stags,
many with antlers 18" long + showing the
3rd [third] point. It began to pour with rain
+ we were thoroughly wet before we regained
camp.
On this trip I realized how scarce soil
is in the parts of Scotland represented by the highlands.
