- in a group of young firs near
the crest of the hill. All six
were bedded in an area
50 ft [feet] square. Shot twice
killing a 24 mos [months] old buck.
Went down to it + examined
it for 2 or 3 minutes when
a doe broke not 10 yards
away + only about 7 yards
from where I had come
noisily down the hillside
She ran up + over hill
Census. [underlined] 10 deer seen in 1700 yards
with a flushing distance
of 100 yards.
This is probably the present
population on about 200 acres
of the area examined or
about 30 per sq [square] mile.
Buck jumped from bed
in shade of log near Mavis
lake at 11:30 A.M.
Today all deer were bedded
by 8 A.M. about 4 hours
after sunrise. There was a
full moon but I see no diff. [difference]
made by it in the period
of morning feeding.
