- Shrew (Dusky)
Dec [December] 29-30. 1935. Took 5 of these shrews
under logs in wood at east
side of lake (Alta). These were
taken often in the same traps
as on other days took Cinereus
Shrews. I could see no difference
in habitat preference between
the two.
March 15, 1946. Huntingdon B.C. [British Columbia]
A nest in a beehive (all bees eaten during
the winter) consisted of leaves + grass
compactly woven into a spherical mass
5 in. [inches] in diameter. Contained 6 young
blind, naked + 15 mm [millimetres] crown rump -
24 mm [millimetres] extended length. Front lower
incisor was the only tooth showing +
it was completely without calcification,
merely a soft, protruding tip. Ears
were folded down forwards + external
aperture not [word crossed out] invisible even on
binocular microscope examination.
