- Molluscs
June 26/42 [1942] Shells of univalves were
exceedingly abundant around shores
of Mason's swamp, Mile 122 Lac la Hache.
Most were Lymnaea [underlined] [freshwater pond snail], some were
Planorbis [underlined] [freshwater "ram's horn" snail] + a few [word crossed out] many were a small
species like Gyraulis [underlined] [Gyraulus - freshwater "ram's horn" snail]. Three valves were
found of a fresh water dam about
an inch long - not Anodonta [underlined] [freshwater mussels].
The strange thing was that complete
shells were abundant in the water and
along the shore line and fragments were
present in great quantity in the soil above
water line + in the sand but not
a living mollusc was seen.
June 30 - Shells of bivalves similar
to those above were found at Anthony
lake; preserved.
Also present: Planorbis, Lymnaea, + Physa(?)
