In grass or rather sedge on the
beach.
Semipalmated Plover, 6 seen and
3 taken, were with a small flock
of Semipalmated Sandpipers.
Gulls very wild indeed, took
one adult Short billed bull.
P.M. [afternoon] Set out a line of traps for
about a mile down the beach
then out to the road + back
home. In a small meadow
about a mile from here - in
the 2nd [second] bay East we found
numerous field mice runways
and set 23 mouse traps.
Racoon [Raccoon]:- Evidently quite abundant
tracks and sign seen everywhere
but dung mostly old. We found
several very small worn
runways along the underside
of fallen logs, the huge
cedars nearly all had
claw marks on the trunks
and many of them had holes
or tunnels under their bases
or among the roots. Many piles
of duck feathers + bones were
found, generally under some
stump or log. Dung mostly
crabshell. Set 5 traps.
Mink:- not common. 2 sets
of mink tracks seen following
