  • fine royal deer park the Hjodtekjar ("Hjorte") = deer). Here we saw about 100 Cervus elaphus including some very fine stags, all of them roaring. A peculiar sound a long low vibrating groan not unlike the distant sound of a chain saw in an echoing forest. Also perhaps 1000 Dama. Mostly red or black but some white. I took photos at 1/50 + 3.5 1/50 at 2.8 + 1/25 at 2.8 the sun was very low but I hope for the best. Also photographed the 16th century hunting palace used by the Danish Kings. The deer are fed in the winter, these poor animals are culled by a special keeper but the larger animals are shot by the king + his party. No particular trick to get them but looking for the best animal would make the operation a bit more esthetic. The meat is sold in Copenhagen. Denmark 4 million 1/3rd [one-third] in Copenhagen. My general impressions are of a city of culture, clean buildings, well organized traffic, interesting old architecture, some fine statuary. People are generally neatly to smartly dressed. The streets are narrow in the older parts of the town + are 1 way. Paving by small cobbles + quite smooth. The suburban areas are beautiful. Houses of brick, some stuccoed
