Census 4 hrs [hours], - approx. [approximately] 5 miles
strip visibility average 200 yds. [yards]
Population 23 [number crossed out] 19 per sq. [square] mile.
Conditions 3 cold nights preceding, 1 inch
fresh snow; frequent fresh
tracks indicated deer we
had put out without seeing.
Possibly up to 1/3 more than
actually counted.
Daily movements: [underlined] At 7:45 the deer were all
active, moving back from
the lake shore where they
had been feeding on alder leaves
etc. [etcetera] By 9:30 nearly all the deer
were bedded down. None were
put out of beds in the sun
even though the sun shone
off + on all day. Bedding
took place in the thickets + in
cedar bottoms.
At 4 P.M. A doe + fawn
were seen coming down to
water.
Two not seen but jumped
at 2:45 from beds in heavy
cedar bottom
