- May 24/41 [1941]
Up at 5:30; sky slightly overcast. Nothing
in any traps.
A flock of 20 geese flew over camp + later
4 more went in same direction (South). Two
loons on lake
Owl nest discovered on the previous
evening was investigated and 5 downy
young were removed by means of small dip
net. Fed readily by hand, eating all
scraps from skinning.
In afternoon took net in truck up lake
shore to shallow bay. Saw turtles basking
on sand bar. Ian [McTaggart Cowan] caught one.
Made set with seine net catching many
small chub, suckers, perch, 1 catfish and
2 turtles.
Made second sweep catching more small
fish + also large perch + med. [medium] sized bass.
In a third haul we got more of the same,
plus 3 turtles + 1 large leather carp + 2
ordinary carp.
Three kodachrome films arrived from Scotts.
After supper the heavy breeze kept up
+ we were able to catch 8 bats apiece
by means of nets.

Took tour back to foot of mountain and
over sand dune but saw nothing.
