  • April 29 (contd [continued]) [1942] Phil Martin says he heard flocks were sighted at 4 P.M. H. Pegler heard that they were seen as early at 2:30 P.M. Lost group observed by myself at 6:15 about. May 11 [1942] A specimen of "King of the Salmon" [Trachipterus altivelis] was caught today at Gonzales bay at 12:30 P.M. by Mr. James Zwinger of 1930 Crescent Rd. Mr. Z. was collecting firewood and noticed this large fish in shallow water still moving around, trying to swim on its side. He waded in hooked stick in gills + dragged it ashore then hit it on head. Head subsequently was badly mutilated + severed from body. Accompanied by Paul Parizeau I called at the house of Mr. Stott, on Crescent Rd to see the fish about 4 P.M. Brought specimen to museum, took pictures in Kodachrome, also black + white by [Clarence] Ferris. Also Times [Victoria Times Colonist?] photographer. Mrs. Sweeney + I patched up carcass + made plaster mold. Several parasitic worms which emerged from the vent were preserved.
