Aklavik. N.WT. [North West Territories] June 8, 1947.
We left Edmonton on Wednesday
June 4 at 9 AM. + after a quick
trip by CPA [Canadian Pacific Airline] plane landed at
Fort Smith at 11:40 +/-. June 5
was spent there while we had
several sessions with E.G. Oldhorn
+ J.S. Prescott of the Forest +
Wildlife Service + straightened
out certain factors in our
arrangements.
The equipment situation is all
right except for boats + motors.
Left Fort Smith about 1:15 P.M.
+ flew to Norman Wells with
stops at Hay River, Fort Providence
Port Simpson + Wrigley. Great Slave
Lake just starting to break up.
Local estimates were that the
first boats would get through
on June 18 or thereabout.
We stayed the night at Norman
+ left at 8:10 AM via Norseman
for Aklavik. 7 passengers, 2 crew
+ the 1st [first] class mail. The plane
made a freight trip later.
Reached Aklavik about 10:45.
