- Chimney Lake, Aug [August] 3, 1948
This morning we found the
geese + after a long drive we
successfully impounded 26 geese.
We feel that we lost 2 sometime
during the drive.
The weather remains stormy every
afternoon + makes banding most
difficult + unpleasant.
Chimney Lake. Aug. [August] 4/1948.
Took the 2 cars, boat + 1 canoe +
set up a trap on Westwick Lake.
A deluge came on as we began
the first drive which netted
us a brood of goldeneye totalling 26 yng [young].
The lake was literally covered with
ducks of several species. Seen particularly were
Shovellor 1 brood 1 white w [winged] scoter [male symbol]
G-w [green-winged] teal 1 " 15 ad [adult] mallards
Redhead 2 "
Canvasback 2 "
Ruddy 3 "
Scaup [female symbol] + 6 dark 3 pale.
The black-necked grebes are all out with
their young now + they + the coots
were most obvious. A few marsh
wrens still have nestlings but all the
young yellowheaded blackbirds seem
to be on the wing.
