- 13 Watanabe Sadao, 1913- , (medium: stencil), is a Christian print artist who draws his inspiration from the Bible. His biblical scenes have a quiet charm and show the influence of Japanese folk art traditions.

14 Maki Haku, 1924- , (medium: mixed), has an international reputation for his fine textured prints. He often makes use of cement for texture and uses Chinese characters as design motifs.

15 Kinoshita Tomio, 1923- , (medium: wood engraving), has borrowed the theme of isolation symbolized by the mask, which was popular in late nineteenth- century Western art. He studied how Cranach and D�rer varied the width of lines in order to create depth and dimension.

16 Inagaki Tomoo, 1902- , (medium: woodblock), has won international acclaim for his highly stylized portrayals of cats. He finds humour in exaggerating certain features of the cats and gives them their own character.

17 Nakayama Tadashi, 1927- , (medium: lithograph, woodblock), displays a wealth of colours in his fanciful and extremely decorative prints. His prints are often like brocades, interwoven with gorgeous ribbonlike forms.

18 Sasajima Kihei, 1901- , (medium: woodblock), shows much influence from Hiratsuka Unichi and Munakata Shiko in his prints, which are predominantly black and white. Since he presses moistened paper deep into the surface of the block, he creates a three-dimensional effect on his prints.

19 Shima Tamami, 1937- , (medium: woodblock), likes to work with highly stylized bird motifs. Her exciting prints have beautifully blended tones, and she makes good use of the grain in the woodblocks for her prints.
