- Banff, Alta. [Alberta]
April 24/1943. [1943]
Contacted supervising Warden [Bruce] Mitchell
+ with him patrolled the road as far
as Lake Louise. On the way met Warden
Ulysses La Casse at Castle Mountain +
[Warden Percy] Woodworth at Lake Louise.
On the way out we saw very little
game but coming back during the evening
there were animals every where
In general there is an excellent stand
of grass, an ample carry over to last
until the new growth comes in.
West of town for a distance [words crossed out] For the
entire distance, however the preferred
browse shrubs are heavily eaten
Willow, young aspen + dogwood are
all clipped down + browsed. There
is a noticeable absence of young
aspens in the stands.
Saw game as follows.
Goat 4
Sheep 45
Moose 3
Deer 25
Elk. 199 [number crossed out] 202
Draw up lens chart to show degree
of competition between these various
game species. Centre + extreme of
browsing activity as related to
habitats.
