Marmota caligata cascadensis Sproat Mtn [mountain] BC [British Columbia] Sept. [September] 8. 1937. Between 4500 + 5500 ft [feet] on South face gully on rock slides saw seven marmots + heard many more. Sept. [September] 9. 1937. Between 4600 + 5600 [feet] on southerly + westerly face counted eighteen of these animals this afternoon + heard many that I did not see. At 4600 ft [feet] came on three sitting on top of a large boulder two were very large fat animals. + the third about 3/4 size All these animals are very shy + take alarm at the slightest noise. Took one [female symbol] on the 8th No. [number] 1668. It was very fat + so I did not take any more. Prepared the specimens for mounting.
