  • Coyote Jasper [underlined] Dec. [December] 23. 9 coyotes seen on Athabasca river ice East of Jasper. One adult was mangy. Dec. [December] 24. Watched coyote in the middle of a band of sheep. They paid very little attention to him as he walked among them. Dec. [December] 26. Trapped adult [female symbol] by front foot in No. [number] 3 trap. She was very fat. - no mange. Placed tag no. [number] (73) [circled] on her. She was caught at about Mile 3 on Edmonton road. Dec. [December] 27. Noticed coyote tracks following wolves for a long distance. Dec. [December] 29. Saw 2 coyotes at bridge to Jasper Lodge. Were feeding on Elk remains. One very mangy, and limped badly. Banff [underlined] Jan. [January] 2. 7 coyotes, 1 very mangy, on Banff - Hillsdale road. Jan. [January] 3. 2 coyotes on B-H [Banff to Hillsdale] road. Clocked one that ran in front of car for at least 1/2 mile at 20-27 m.p.h. [miles per hour] 2 coyotes heard howling (at sheep?) at head of draw behind Hillsdale cabin. [different handwriting; possibly Jim Hatter]
