- Ascaphus. May 30/1942. Ascaphus Creek, west side Cultus Lake, B.C. [British Columbia] This is the third creek counting that supplying the Cultus lake water as the first. We entered the Canyon at Lake level + in about 3/4 mile saw 5 Ascaphus [underlined] tadpoles + captured 2 of them. They clung to rocks in the ripples near swift water their long tails lax in the current. Movement for short distances was without detaching the sucker. A jerky forward glide. Feeding movements were equally jerky. Holding with the post. [posterior] part of the disk they advanced the anterior part + drew it back with a rasping motion June 2, 1942. Sunshine, North Shore of Burrard Inlet. the small creek providing the water supply for this summer resort was found to contain Ascaphus. [underlined] By daylight we caught 6, 1 year old tadpoles in about 300 yrds [yards]. At night we used headlights + took 3, 2 year old tadpoles with hind legs in evidence. These we found occupying pools near riffles. Under the light they were quite easy to capture. Two adult [female symbol]'s were taken on the edge of one pool. One of these was predominantly pinkish, the other olivaceous. In both the light nose patch was evident (over)
