- Pass Lake. July 27/49 [1949].
Rain overnight sprung some of my
traps but results are set out later.
Using the dog I worked a strip
2 miles long and about 100 ft [feet] wide
In this there was a [female symbol] + 3 yng [young]
blue grouse + 1 [male symbol] ruffed grouse
Tracks of what were believed to
be 8 +/- different deer were
seen but I do not think the
deer population here is
running more than ten deer
per section
There has been a fairly heavy
wintering moose population
that has damaged many of
the browse plants however
the plants were not killed +
are now in fair condition,
except where overgrowth has
taken them out of reach.
Pass Lake. July 28-30/49 [1949]
Continued the plot work +
made a check of waterfowl
conditions at Lac du Bois.
This is full of a blue-green
alga + contains not more
than 1/4th [one-fourth] the ducks it had
last year.
Microtus m. [montanus] canescens are
in outbreak numbers.
