and Forbush sparrow, geese, deer +
bear feed in it but little else.
It used to be frequented by the
Cervus elaphus [words underlined] + [Ronald] Stewart reports
seeing 20 birds in one group
in 1940 or 42. None seen recently.
Some of the minor plants seen were
Menyanthes (scarce) Lyschiton [Lysichiton] (scarce),
Potentilla palustris, Myrica gale - dwarfed
+ scarce, probably deer killed.
On drier sphagnum hillocks Cornus
canadensis + some dwarfed salal.
Shot a doe deer + saw 6 other
ad [adult] does + 2 deer unknown sex + age.
It is still early spring here, leaves
opened on May 1 + the grass is
just coming up.

Flew down here this morning, on
the way had an even better look
at the country around the Tlell.
The Pontoons area is reported to flood
badly in the autumn but a
large part of the length of the
river is excellent looking beaver
range. This also is elk range. The
pilot has seen 20 in one band + 9 in
another
