Microtus richardsoni macropus.
Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke Park B.C. [British Columbia] July 2. 1937. An ad. [adult] [male symbol] in rat
trap set at mouth of dry water hole by stream in valley
east of camp + below rockslide. Large + well
developed glands 11X20 m.m. [millimetres]
July 4/ 37 [1937] Took a large [male symbol] in rat trap about
100 yards below where first animal was taken.
A small stream flows down this hollow + in
places the banks are steep + covered with
herbage. Several of the traps disturbed by
ground squirrels + in one instance trap + stake
were pulled up + I found chain tangled
up in the grass. I released the ground
squirrel + it made off at a great pace.
Later on during morning found a meadow
further south in which is a small lake [illegible word]
+ through which meadow two small streamlets
flow. Along these streams were numerous burrows
of M. r. [Microtus richardsoni] macropus + in one place close
to stream was a winter nest made of dried
sedges. Nest was about a foot in diameter.
Set out 5 mouse traps at entrances to burrows
+ runways.
July 5/37 [1937]. Left camp 5 a.m. + made round of traps
lifting those in rock slide + down hill to stream
where I caught first anim [word crossed out] microtus. [Illegible word crossed out] Changed
mouse traps in meadow + in place put 10 rat traps
+ while setting these saw a large microtus running
+ swimming in the small brook. It kept diving + swimming under
water when deep enough + kept hunting under the
bank + then would come out + dive under again
Watched the animal four a short time then
