There are two Research stations; one just
opening at Morcome [Morecambe] Bay headed by [K.R.S.] Morris. There
is a small staff of 3 or 4 scientists including [J.D.] Ovington
who specializes in tree growth + soils. He samples the
soil for all mineral constituents + water content, then
takes all the species of trees from the area + analyses
them for minerals + growth rates to the end that
he can predict from soil analyses the suitable
tree species + the probable growth rates. He has
several papers in press in Journ [Journal] of Ecology.
