- Blue Grouse
Victoria, B.C. [British Columbia] April 1, 1936. #36.4.1 D.
Examined ad. [adult] [male symbol] Blue Grouse
(D. f. [Dendragapus fuliginosus] fuliginosus) [underlined] from Sooke Road
near Luxton. Brought in by
Game warden B. Cash who found
the bird dead. The bird was
in good condition - no signs
of external violence but some
nasal discharge. Lungs were
enlarge + congested all the
pulmonary tubules being
filled with a yellow cheesy
mass.
Crop was full, containing
a tea cup full of hemlock
needles + buds (T. heterophylla) [underlined]
Crofton: Oct [October] 9/39 [1939]
[male symbol] juvy [juvenile] crop. 12 clover leaves
1 hemlock tip.
Cowichan Lake March 23/40 [1940].
All over this district the blue
grouse came down within the
last 3 days. Some hooting is
going on + [male symbol]'s are mostly on
the ground + very easy to approach
Goldstream Lake. April 12/40 [1940]
Hooting has been in progress
since April 2. Today watched
