  • Translated transcription: Days and weeks pass without any sails appearing on the horizon. Always there is only the same rolling waves and the eternal splash of the ocean against the hull. Far off to the east there is sometimes a glimpse of a rough, surf-crowned coast, but they have nothing to gain from that poor country. The sheets strain and then sag, their speed increases then decreases, but always they go on. Then sails appear to the west, followed soon by the high prows of ships. The question now is whether they are peaceful merchant vessels, which Vébjörg orders they shall let pass undisturbed, or other Viking ships, possibly even raiders of the Sea Wolves’ type, for then there will be a battle for mastery of the ocean. Then many a sword will be split and many an eye as well.
