- Canis lupus Rabbit tracks were fairly numerous + the wolf tracks suggested to me that they were rabbit hunting. Rufe Neighbor reports many wolf tracks between Mud Creek + Deer Creek 3 to 6 mi [miles] W. [west] of here - later examination revealed that these were the same wolves. They had run along the base of the Mt. [mountain] from Deer Creek + headed out toward Rock Lake Kills:- So far have found remains of 2 moose (ad [adult]) + 2 deer at least one of which was a fawn. Blue Creek. May 26/44. [1944] Wolves were working in this valley until almost Christmas time, then moved west[?] + did not return until early in May when 6 came up the valley all the way to Hoodoo Cabin. About Christmas time they killed a deer near Topaz Shelter. I saw almost no sign along the trail today. Topaz Shelter. May 29/44 [1944] There was neither sign nor tracks of wolves along the trail between here + Blue Creek. Shalebanks. June 2/44 [1944] 1 set of fresh tracks coming down the trail.
